Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 4, 2026
This extension has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, and no tracking. It reads the contacts and group participants visible on WhatsApp Web only when you click an export button, builds the file (CSV, JSON, or vCard) entirely inside your own browser, and saves it to your device. None of your data ever leaves your browser — there is no external server to send it to.

1. What the extension does
The WhatsApp Web Contacts Exporter is a browser extension that helps you export your own contact and group-participant lists from WhatsApp Web into standard files (CSV, JSON, or vCard) for your personal use — for example, to back up contacts or move them into another tool.
The extension only becomes active on the WhatsApp Web tab, and only does anything when you explicitly click a button such as "Download Contacts" or "Download Group Contacts." It does not run in the background, does not run automatically, and does not operate on any website other than https://web.whatsapp.com/*.
2. Data the extension accesses
When you click export, the extension reads information that is already visible to you on the WhatsApp Web page, so it can build the file you asked for. Depending on the action, this can include:
- Contact names as shown in your chat and contact list.
- Phone numbers associated with those contacts.
- Group names and group participants when you export a group.
This information is read directly from the page in your browser at the moment you request an export. It is used for one purpose only: to generate the file you chose to download. The extension does not read your messages, media, or any other website's content.
3. Everything stays local
All processing happens on your computer, inside your browser. The contact data is collected from the page, formatted into your chosen file type, and handed to your browser's download function so you can save it where you like.
The developer operates no servers and no database. The extension makes no network requests to any external server with your contact data — there is literally nowhere for your data to be sent. Once the file is saved to your device, you alone control it.
4. What we never do
- We do not transmit your contacts, group lists, or any other data to the developer or any third party.
- We do not collect analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics.
- We do not use cookies, advertising identifiers, or tracking pixels.
- We do not require an account, sign-in, or email address to use the export features.
- We do not read your WhatsApp messages or media, and we do not modify the WhatsApp Web page content.
- We do not run on, read, or interact with any website other than WhatsApp Web.
5. Permissions & why each is needed
Chrome requires the extension to declare the browser permissions it uses. Each one is used strictly for the export feature described above and nothing else:
Lets the extension work with the WhatsApp Web interface to read the visible contacts and group participants when you export. The extension does not access or modify any other domain, and makes no network requests to external servers.
Lets the extension detect when you are on WhatsApp Web and act on that tab. It is used only when you explicitly click the export button — it does not read or interact with any other website.
Lets the extension inject a lightweight script into the active WhatsApp Web tab to read the visible contact and group information when you request an export. The script runs only when you click "Download Contacts" or "Download Group Contacts," only on https://web.whatsapp.com/*, and does not modify page content, send data elsewhere, or run automatically on any other site.
Lets the extension save the exported contact list (CSV, JSON, or vCard) to your device. The file is generated locally and uses the Chrome downloads API so you can choose where to save it. No data leaves the browser.
Stores your Pro license activation status locally on your device, so the extension remembers that Pro features are unlocked between sessions without asking you to re-activate each time.
6. Pro license storage
If you unlock the optional Pro features, the extension saves your activation status locally on your device using the browser's storage API. This is so the extension remembers that Pro is unlocked between sessions and does not ask you to re-activate every time.
This activation status is stored on your device only. It is not a profile of you, it is not transmitted to the developer for tracking, and it contains no contact data.
7. Third-party services
The extension does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-broker services. The only platform it relies on is your own web browser and its standard extension APIs:
Your use of the WhatsApp Web site itself is governed by the privacy policy and terms of WhatsApp / Meta, which are independent of this extension.
9. Data retention
The extension does not retain your contact data. Contacts are read only at the moment of export, used to build the file, and then released — they are not kept inside the extension after the download completes. You decide where to save the exported file and how long to keep it.
The only thing stored locally is your Pro activation status (see Section 6). You can clear it at any time by removing the extension: open chrome://extensions, find the extension, and choose Remove. This deletes its locally stored data from your browser.
10. Children's privacy
The extension is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because the extension collects no personal information on any server at all (see Section 3).
11. GDPR & CCPA notes
Because the extension processes data only locally and never transmits it, the developer is not a data controller or processor of your contact data — you remain in full control of it on your own device. Your rights under the GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, objection) and the CCPA / CPRA (know, delete, correct, opt out, non-discrimination) therefore apply to data that already lives on your device:
- Access & portability: The exported CSV, JSON, or vCard file already gives you your data in an open, machine-readable format.
- Erasure: Delete any exported file you saved, and remove the extension to clear its locally stored activation status.
- Sale or sharing: The developer does not sell or share personal information, because none is collected on any server.
12. Chrome Web Store policy compliance
This extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data accessed by the extension is used solely to provide the contact-export feature you request and is processed locally. It is never sold, never transferred to third parties, and never used for advertising, credit assessment, or any unrelated purpose.
13. Not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta
This is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc. "WhatsApp" is a trademark of its respective owner and is used here only to describe what the extension works with.
14. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL and the effective date at the top of the page will be updated. Continued use of the extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
